- About Our Communities
Are you considering a move to Texas? Known for its friendly people, diverse culture, and thriving economy, the Lone Star State has much to offer. Whether you're relocating for work, family, or simply a change of scenery, it's important to be prepared. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you transition smoothly and find your perfect home in Texas.
Things to Note
Car Registration
Upon moving to Texas, one of the first things you'll need to do is register your vehicle. Texas law requires new residents to register their vehicles within 30 days of establishing residency. You'll need to have your vehicle inspected, obtain Texas auto insurance, and then visit your local county tax office to complete the registration process.
Voter Registration
Don't forget to register to vote! Texas makes it easy for new residents to get involved in the democratic process. You can register to vote when you apply for your Texas driver's license or by filling out a voter registration form available online or at various public offices.
Transferring Out-of-State Driver’s License
If you have a driver's license from another state, you’ll need to transfer it to a Texas driver's license within 90 days of moving. Visit a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office with your current driver's license, proof of residency, proof of identity, and Social Security number. You may also be required to pass a vision test and provide fingerprints.
0% State Income Tax & Affordable Cost of Living
One of the biggest financial benefits of living in Texas is the absence of state income tax. This can significantly increase your take-home pay. Additionally, Texas boasts a relatively affordable cost of living compared to many other states. Housing, utilities, and groceries are all reasonably priced, making Texas an attractive option for families, young professionals, and retirees alike.
